Typography is an essential component of design. With over 200,000 fonts available, it’s an element that is expressive and diverse in and of itself.
Today, we welcome a new DxD partner — The Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) — an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion, study, and support of typographic arts and design education. SOTA exists for the affordable education of its members and participants; to further the development of type, typographical information, and typography; and to appreciate on multiple levels the attributes of type, typography, design, the book arts, and calligraphy.
SOTA sponsors an annual conference, TypeCon, to support these goals. It includes a TypeCon Scholarship awarded to young female designers to attend TypeParis, a five week intensive program focused on teaching typeface design and techniques.
As a nonprofit partner, SOTA will provide educational opportunities for Black and Brown youth and designers to understand the critical importance of typography across all fields of the profession.
